Palworld Wool: Which Pals Produce It and How to Farm It

Wool is an early-game material in Palworld. The in-game description calls it material sheared from sheep-like Pals, used for bedding, Cloth, and more. There are three ways to get it: assign the right Pals to a Ranch for a passive supply, defeat or capture Pals that drop it, or buy it from a wandering merchant. This guide lists exactly which Pals produce wool, what it builds, and how much each method costs.

Wool-Producing Pals (Ranch)

Only three Pals produce wool when assigned to a Ranch. All three are Neutral element. Cremis and Melpaca yield slightly more per cycle than Lamball; higher-star Pals produce more per cycle.

Pal Element Ranch Wool Production
Lamball Neutral Lowest of the three; reliable early-game producer
Cremis Neutral Slightly higher output than Lamball
Melpaca Neutral Comparable to Cremis; higher output than Lamball

These three are the only Pals with the Ranch wool behaviour. Other sheep-like Pals such as Kingpaca and Sweepa do not produce wool on a Ranch; they only drop it when defeated or captured (see below).

Building the Ranch

  • Unlocks at: Technology Level 5
  • Build cost: Wood x50, Stone x20, Fiber x30
  • How it works: Place the Ranch in your base and assign Lamball, Cremis, or Melpaca to it. They drop wool on the ground inside the Ranch over time; base Pals with the Gathering work suitability will carry it to storage, or you can pick it up by hand.

Pals That Drop Wool When Defeated or Captured

Wool also drops from several Pals when you defeat or capture them. This is a fast way to get a quick batch before you have a Ranch running.

Pal Wool Dropped Drop Rate
Swee 1 100%
Cremis 1–2 100%
Lamball 1–3 100%
Melpaca 2–5 100%
Sweepa 3–5 100%
Kingpaca 5 100%
Kingpaca Cryst 5 100%

Lamball and Cremis appear in the starting grassland areas and are easy early targets. Melpaca, Kingpaca, and Sweepa appear in higher-level regions.

Buying Wool From Merchants

Wandering Merchants and town Merchants sell Wool for 100 Gold each. Buying is only worth it for small top-ups, since a Ranch with two or three sheep Pals produces wool for free once it is set up.

What Wool Is Used For

Wool feeds a handful of crafting recipes. The most important early use is Cloth, which in turn is needed for armour and other items.

Item Wool Required Crafted At
Cloth 2 Primitive Workbench
Shoddy Bed 1 Workbench
Helmet 5 Primitive Workbench
High Quality Cloth 10 High Quality Workbench
Melpaca Saddle 5 Pal Gear Workbench
Kingpaca Saddle 30 Pal Gear Workbench
Kingpaca Cryst Saddle 36 Pal Gear Workbench

Practical Wool Tips

  • Capture a few Lamball in the starting area so you can ranch them as soon as you unlock the Ranch at Level 5.
  • Cremis and Melpaca produce a little more wool per cycle than Lamball, so swap them in once you can capture them.
  • Keep at least one base Pal with the Gathering work suitability assigned so dropped wool is carried to storage automatically.
  • For a one-off batch before you have a Ranch, defeating or catching Sweepa or Kingpaca gives the largest single drops.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Pals produce wool at a Ranch?

Lamball, Cremis, and Melpaca. They are the only three Pals with the Ranch wool behaviour, and all three are Neutral element.

Can I shear Pals manually?

No. Pals on a Ranch drop wool on the ground over time on their own. You assign them to the Ranch and then collect the wool, either by hand or via a Pal with the Gathering work suitability.

Which Pal gives the most wool?

For passive Ranch production, Cremis and Melpaca produce slightly more than Lamball. For one-time drops on defeat or capture, Sweepa and Kingpaca drop the most (3–5 and 5 respectively).

How much does wool cost from a merchant?

100 Gold per wool. A Ranch is cheaper over time, so merchants are best for small top-ups.

What is wool used for?

Mainly Cloth (2 wool), which is needed for armour and other gear. It is also used for the Shoddy Bed, Helmet, High Quality Cloth, and several Pal saddles (Melpaca, Kingpaca, Kingpaca Cryst).

Is hunting or ranching better for wool?

Ranching is better for a steady, free, renewable supply once you reach Level 5. Defeating or capturing wool Pals is better for an immediate batch before your Ranch is running.

With three sheep Pals on a Ranch and a Gathering Pal to collect, you will have a steady wool supply for Cloth, beds, and saddles for the rest of your playthrough.
