Palworld High Quality Pal Oil: Which Pals Drop It and Best Farming Method

Palworld High Quality Pal Oil: Which Pals Drop It and Best Farming Method

High Quality Pal Oil is a mid-game crafting material in Palworld. Its main use is making Polymer, and it is also consumed by many firearm, ammunition, and armor recipes. There are three reliable ways to get it: ranching Dumud for a passive supply, hunting Pals that drop it, or buying it from a Wandering Merchant. This page covers which Pals drop it, how to farm it, and what it is used for.

Which Pals drop High Quality Pal Oil

A number of Pals can drop High Quality Pal Oil when defeated or captured. The most accessible sources are listed below. For low-level players, Woolipop, Digtoise, and Dumud are the easiest targets.

Pal Element Notes
Woolipop Dark Easiest early-game source, roams the Bamboo Groves
Dumud Ground 100% drop rate, found across the desert; also produces oil from a Ranch
Digtoise Ground Found in the desert alongside Dumud
Relaxaurus / Relaxaurus Lux Dragon / Water Higher-level source near the Sealed Realm of the Thunder Dragon
Mammorest / Mammorest Cryst Grass / Ice Tanky bosses; larger but slower kills
Flambelle, Grintale, Quivern, Elphidran, others Various Additional Pals that can drop the oil less commonly

Dumud has a 100% drop rate, which makes it the most consistent active source. Because Dumud is a Ground element Pal, bring a reasonably strong Grass element Pal to fight it efficiently.

Method 1: Ranch Dumud for passive oil

Since the v0.2.0.6 update, Dumud produces High Quality Pal Oil while grazing in a Ranch. This is the most hands-off supply: assign one or more Dumud to a Ranch, leave the base, and collect the oil from the Ranch or nearby storage when you return.

  • Unlock the Ranch: it becomes available at Technology level 5.
  • Build cost: around 50 Wood, 20 Stone, and 30 Fiber.
  • Assign Dumud: capture Dumud in the desert and assign them to the Ranch.
  • Higher star Dumud yield more: the amount produced per drop rises with the Pal's star rating, so condensed Dumud are worth using.

With multiple high-star Dumud working together, you can reasonably expect on the order of a few dozen units of oil per hour, which is enough to keep a steady Polymer supply going without active hunting.

Method 2: Hunt oil-dropping Pals

If you want oil quickly or do not have a Ranch yet, hunting works well. Two areas stand out:

  • Desert around the Anubis Alpha boss: Dumud and Digtoise wander here in numbers. With Dumud's 100% drop rate, this is a fast farming loop once you can clear the area.
  • Sealed Realm of the Thunder Dragon: Relaxaurus spawns here repeatedly. You can also fight or capture the nearby Relaxaurus Lux for more oil.
  • Mammorest: these bosses also drop the oil but are tanky, so they are a slower option than farming Dumud.

Bring Pals with an element advantage for each target: Grass against Dumud and Digtoise (both Ground), and counter Relaxaurus and Mammorest according to their types.

Method 3: Buy from a Wandering Merchant

Wandering Merchants sell High Quality Pal Oil for 300 Gold each. The Wandering Merchant in Duneshelter (the desert settlement, around the 358, 350 area) is a reliable seller. Buying is the fastest method if you are short on time and have gold to spare, but it is far more expensive than ranching or hunting. You can also catch a Wandering Merchant and assign it to your base so a seller is always available.

What High Quality Pal Oil is used for

The most important use is crafting Polymer, an advanced material needed for high-tier gear. Beyond that, the oil is consumed by many weapon, ammunition, and armor recipes.

  • Polymer: crafted from 2 High Quality Pal Oil per unit at a Production Assembly Line. The Assembly Line unlocks at Technology level 28, and the Polymer recipe itself unlocks at Technology level 33. Producing Polymer requires electricity, so you also need a powered generator.
  • Firearms and ammunition: handguns, muskets, assault rifles, shotguns, and SMGs use the oil in their recipes.
  • Armor: high-tier armor such as Legendary Plasteel Armor uses it.
  • Pal gear and stations: several saddles and crafting structures also list it as a material.

Which method is best?

For a steady long-term supply, ranching Dumud is the most efficient because it runs passively and Dumud has a guaranteed drop. Hunting around the Anubis desert is the fastest way to get a burst of oil early, and buying from a merchant is a convenient fallback when you have gold but no time. Most players combine all three.
