Minecraft Potion Recipes (2026): Every Brewing Recipe
Current for Java & Bedrock. Every potion recipe below, with ingredients, base/extended durations and level II values. Brew once, learn the pattern, and you can make any potion.
The brewing chain: Water Bottle → (Nether Wart) → Awkward Potion → (one ingredient) → Potion → (Redstone / Glowstone / Gunpowder modifier).
Brewing Stand recipe (crafting the stand itself)
Before any potion: craft the Brewing Stand with 1 Blaze Rod + 3 Cobblestone (Blackstone, Cobbled Deepslate and their variants also work) - Blaze Rod in the middle slot, the three stone blocks across the bottom row. Blaze Rods drop from Blazes in Nether Fortresses; if you'd rather not fight for one, brewing stands also generate in village churches (grab it with any pickaxe) and at End Ship hulls. The stand burns Blaze Powder as fuel - one powder covers 20 brewing operations.
The setup
- Brewing stand: 3 cobblestone + 1 Blaze Rod (or find one in a Nether fortress). Fuel it with Blaze Powder.
- Bottles: fill glass bottles at water, place up to three in the bottom slots.
- The base: brew Nether Wart into water bottles to make the Awkward Potion - the starting point for almost every potion.

Add one ingredient to an Awkward Potion. Durations are Java Edition values; +Redstone extends them, +Glowstone upgrades to level II (where it exists, at a shorter duration).

Negative potion recipes (corrupt with a Fermented Spider Eye)
Add a Fermented Spider Eye to a finished potion to flip it. These are the ones players look up most, so they get their own list:

Special: Potion of Weakness
Weakness skips the Awkward step - brew a Fermented Spider Eye directly into a water bottle. Turn it into a splash potion (gunpowder) for curing zombie villagers - see the villager trades guide for the discount trick.
The modifiers (apply to any finished potion)

Supply tip: a Cleric villager sells the two modifier ingredients - redstone dust (Novice) and glowstone (Journeyman) - and buys your nether wart at Master, so a single cured Cleric turns a potion hall self-sustaining. Full prices in the villager trades guide.
Most useful potions to keep stocked
- Fire Resistance - mandatory for the Nether and lava diving (mining ancient debris).
- Healing / Regeneration - combat and boss fights.
- Strength + Swiftness - melee and travel.
- Night Vision + Water Breathing - caves and ocean monuments.
- Splash Weakness + Golden Apple - villager curing.
